About Us

Our Montessori Story

In April 2016, for the first time in Bulgaria, a “Montessori School” for students aged 6–12 opened its doors — an educational environment created as an alternative to the traditional education system and founded entirely on the philosophy and principles of Dr. Maria Montessori.

During the 2018–2019 school year, the school operated under a franchise agreement with Higher Ground Education (Lake Forest, California) as part of the international Guidepost Montessori network.

In 2019, the school registered its own trademark with the Patent Office: Veritas Montessori school of Varna, with registration number 107613.

The curriculum is aligned with international standards for educating students aged 6–12 using the Montessori method, while also fully meeting the national educational requirements of the Ministry of Education and Science from preschool through 7th grade.

The school is licensed by the Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria, Ordinance No. 14-45/03.07.2020.

Veritas Montessori School of Varna is an affiliate of Cambrilearn, South Africa, and offers an internationally recognized British curriculum.

Since February 2026, the Veritas Montessori school of Varna has been a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme and is working toward authorization as an IB World School.

Montessori Community (Ages 4–6) A place where children grow independently, confidently, and prepare naturally for school

The early years are one of the most important periods in a child’s development. In her scientific works, Dr. Maria Montessori points out that between the ages of 3 and 6, children lay the foundations for their character, self-confidence, concentration, habits, and attitude toward learning.

In a Montessori environment, a child doesn’t simply “attend classes.” Instead, the child discovers, chooses, experiments, repeats, makes mistakes without fear, and learns through experience. This helps the child develop inner confidence, independence, and a natural curiosity about the world around them.

Our preschool group is designed for children ages 3 to 6 and follows the internationally recognized Montessori method. In a well-prepared and calm environment, children work with authentic Montessori materials that develop their senses, fine motor skills, concentration, language, mathematical thinking, and daily living skills.

Frequently Asked Questions

Maria Montessori describes the first six years as a period of the “absorbent mind”—a time when children naturally acquire knowledge, language, behavior, and habits through their surroundings. International Montessori organizations identify the period from ages 3 to 6 as crucial for the development of independence, coordination, concentration, social skills, and the foundations for academic learning.

That is why in our group we do not rush, pressure, or compare the children. We carefully observe each child and offer them the right material at the right moment—when they are ready to engage with it with interest and ease.

In the classroom, the children engage in real-life activities—tidying up, pouring, cleaning, caring for their environment, and self-care. At first glance, this seems simple, but it actually helps build concentration, coordination, patience, self-control, and confidence.

Montessori sensory materials help children develop their powers of observation, logical thinking, and the ability to compare, sort, and identify patterns. This serves as natural preparation for mathematics, writing, and more complex thinking.

Language and math activities are introduced gradually and through hands-on work. Children do not learn by rote, but rather through experience. In this way, writing, reading, and math become a natural extension of their curiosity, rather than a stressful task.

Our goal is not simply for the child to “know more.” The goal is for the child to be ready for school as a person—calm, confident, focused, independent, and curious.

Children learn to make choices, to finish what they start, to work carefully, to take care of themselves, and to respect others.

ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

A defining feature of the Montessori environment is that students learn to embrace the challenges of independent learning and develop the perseverance needed to pursue their interests with purpose. They come to understand that genuine self-esteem is not built on empty praise, but earned through meaningful effort and achievement.

Our students:

- Carefully observe the world around them, engaging all their senses.
- Develop the ability to record their observations over time—presenting details schematically, writing clear and accurate descriptions, and creating charts and graphs.
- Learn to distinguish between direct sensory observations and the interpretations or conclusions they draw from scientific inquiry.

Curriculum

The key feature of the Montessori environment is that students learn to tackle the challenges of independent learning and to demonstrate the perseverance that allows them to pursue what they love.

Internal discipline
The development of intrinsic discipline in each student emerges from carefully prepared environments, consistent routines, and purposeful classroom practices. From an early stage, students demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility for their work and, through thoughtfully designed methods and materials, learn to regulate their behaviour and focus their attention. This leads to a classroom culture in which every student is engaged, motivated to pursue meaningful goals, and able to manage themselves effectively while carrying out their tasks.
Work Ethic
Students develop a strong sense of responsibility. Along with encouraging them to cultivate independence and make their own choices, each child is responsible for preparing the necessary materials for lessons, completing assigned tasks, and keeping an accurate record of their work.

Our Montessori primary classes provide students with a high degree of independence. Instead of moving as a group according to a fixed schedule, students manage their time through purposeful work cycles.

The teacher's role shifts from directing every task to guiding, observing, and supporting each child's individual learning journey.
Mathematics
The study of mathematics, however, offers more than just numbers and calculations. It allows children to develop and exercise their analytical minds. It teaches students how to assess situations, mentally test hypotheses, use problem-solving strategies, draw conclusions, and articulate them clearly. Mathematics instruction begins with concrete, hands-on materials that develop a sense of quantity, order, and geometry. By working with these scientifically designed examples of abstract ideas, students gain experience that develops mental models of mathematical principles. Students use one-of-a-kind Montessori learning materials.
History
In our curriculum, the subject of "history" is not a list of dates or a collection of topics. It is a unified narrative of the development of the modern world—an explanation of the world for the student. It is a comprehensive, rich chronology of the arts and inventions, of people and institutions, of events, conflicts, and above all, of ideas.
Language and Literature
Instruction is delivered in Bulgarian, with enhanced study of English. The programme includes systematic learning of grammar, reading, reading comprehension, spelling, vocabulary, and all elements of the writing process. In the classroom, a culture of literacy is developed, where students regularly write, read their work to their peers, receive individual feedback and guidance from teachers, and are encouraged to take on challenges—such as reading more complex texts and expressing their most sophisticated thoughts and emotions in writing.
Natural Sciences
The primary function of human knowledge is to understand why. Why does the sun trace an arc as it moves across the sky? How do pinecones fall from the tree? Why do I sweat when I run? Curiosity about the world around us is the foundation of inventiveness and creativity. The primary goal of science education is to allow students to immerse themselves deeply in science, its content, and its methods.
Music
Music is a universal language loved by children and adults around the world. Children have a natural affinity for movement, dance, and creating music, and are born with the ability to appreciate different musical genres. Music lessons are part of the daily curriculum at our school and are taught with the same dedication as the other subjects in the curriculum.
Visual Arts
Our approach teaches students to engage with visual art in the same way they engage with books and films: to experience a direct sense of delight in the content of the artwork.
Wushu/Kung Fu
Whether for health or athletic achievement, kung fu is one of the sports that develops all physical qualities—flexibility, strength, speed, agility, and jumping ability—all combined with the wisdom of the tradition it embodies.
Yoga
In addition to the tremendous physical and mental benefits for children, one of the core principles of yoga practice is respect and reverence for oneself, others, and our environment. Yoga for children is a holistic practice that helps children develop a high level of concentration and self-awareness.
